Given how important the environmental microbiome is both to human health and planetary regulation, it is important that we begin to include it in the context of cities and urbanisation.

This project brought together people with knowledges across a variety of policy, organising in healthcare and the criminal justice system, as well as environmental and climate justice.

On 11th October 2023, 14 people, ranging from the fields of medicine, policy, law, abolition, science, data science, economics, and art gathered to declare our right to access AIR.

A small group of practitioners and parents gathered with members from the Centric Lab team for a roundtable to discuss the definition, identification, and cause of the acute childhood crisis as well as how we respond to the crisis through the informal care of communities and the formal care of healthcare systems.

We are very proud and excited to launch this living wisdoms ecosystem. We are coining this term as Knowledges are alive, they evolve through interaction with culture, events, and time. This term also highlights that Indigenous Knowledges are still relevant and will always keep evolving to support our survival and healing.

“Planetary dysregulation is the impaired ability of planetary systems to maintain the processes required for self-regulation, particularly due to unsustainable exploitation of ecosystems and chronic exposure to industrial contamination”.

The intention of this audio project is to discuss the links between systems and imaginations rooted in supremacy, the dysregulation of planetary systems, and the poor health outcomes being experienced by peoples who are racialised and minoritised.

Human activity, especially at scale, has not just produced particulates that harm us. In the case of three major greenhouse gases (GHGs), large-scale human activity has also disturbed the balance of naturally occurring gases to the point that global warming takes place because the ecosystem is not able to adapt.

This project was created to showcase the lived experience and expertise of the various marginalised communities being affected by the dysregulation of our planetary systems.

This report will focus on the pathways that are contributing to planetary dysregulation and their impacts on human health. With the purpose of updating policies that will support the work of environmental and health justice practitioners.

The move away from a reliance on a natural resource should be supported by the health and environmental benefits it will bring to people living in close proximity to industrial sites, and to our overall biodiversity regulation.

Thermal pollution is going to be a factor of increased importance due to climate change as it encompasses everything from region down to the density of buildings and even further to the materiality of the environment.

Capitalism is finally acknowledging that it has reached a limit to its extraction methods, it can no longer keep taking from nature without consequence. In response, capitalism is employing more sustainable practices with sustainability or green technology at the top of most corporate agendas, however this is not going to be enough. Especially, if we are to reach meaningful planetary health goals that can also have a positive impact on human health. 

Air pollution presents a particularly insidious hazard given that the disease affects respiratory and cardio-vascular systems (source). These two systems are sensitive to air pollution as air pollution directly damages the mechanics and as a consequence the function of lungs, heart, and the circulatory system.
