Energy Garden

Energy Garden works with transport providers and communities in London to decarbonise the rail with solar energy and green space. They activate rail stations, train depots, local schools, hospitals and housing estates with solar panels, battery storage and gardens. This results in thousands of m2 grey space turned green and millions of MW hours of renewable electricity generated to decarbonise communities.

Energy Garden supports communities to access, grow food and encourage biodiversity around transport infrastructure. Over the last seven years Energy Garden has secured funding to negotiate the legal permissions of multiple transport partners, fund staff to oversee development of gardens, run education programmes and buy the necessary materials and equipment for local people to build greener spaces.

The gardens in the network are run by and for the communities that use the stations. They always start by asking: How do you see your station? The conversations that result lead us down unexpected pathways and every station’s garden is a reflection of the community that lives and travels there. You canTake a look at their map and find a station near you. Then message them and they will connect you to the gardening group via WhatsApp.
