Indigenous Wisdoms + TEK For Urban Planning

LAUNCHING 21 April  2023

This imagination lab will bring together Indigenous specialists from all over the world to discuss integrating Traditional Ecological Knowledges (TEK) and Indigenous wisdoms equitably and honestly into urban planning - without appropriation or reductionism.

This has two pathways of interest.

  • The first pathway of interest relates to the rate Indigenous Peoples will be moving to world cities like London, NYC, or Mexico City due to land theft for green technologies, the destruction of habitats due to weather events and industry-driven contaminants, and economic poverty.

  • The second pathway of interest relates to the need for urban environments to become more climate-ready; Indigenous Knowledges and TEK can play an instrumental role in these strategies. Additionally, integrating Indigenous Knowledges and TEK in urban planning strategies can aid in Indigenous healing.
